It\u2019s not strictly the case.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sure, some things are more challenging to treat than others, and some mental health issues can clinically be affected through various treatments like medication, therapy, or mindfulness practice.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However \u2013 not all mental health conditions are created equally, and neither are their effects on the brain.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"a-little-bit-of-background\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Little Bit of Background<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What is ADHD?&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ADHD, or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, is a condition that can affect a person\u2019s behavior. Usually, people with ADHD may seem restless, have trouble with concentration, and may act impulsively.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Sounds familiar?&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"why-does-adhd-slip-under-the-radar\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Why Does ADHD Slip Under the Radar?&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While ADHD can often be diagnosed relatively easily in children \u2013 diagnoses in adults are much more difficult.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is partly due to the fact that there\u2019s some disagreement in the medical community about whether the symptoms used for diagnosing children and teens <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">apply to adults.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In most cases where a diagnosis <\/span><b>is<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> achieved, it\u2019s due to the subject displaying 5 or more inattentiveness or hyperactivity symptoms.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The symptoms of ADHD usually improve as we age, but many adults who were diagnosed as children continue to experience issues later in life.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s the kicker:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b>ADHD can naturally progress to additional problems like anxiety and sleep disorders.<\/b><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"what-are-the-symptoms\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What Are the Symptoms?&nbsp;<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Well, as I mentioned, it\u2019s rarely the case that the symptoms are apparent enough to lead to a diagnosis \u2013 but here are the most common ones. Let\u2019s break them down into two main groups: <\/span><b>inattentiveness<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>hyperactivity\/impulsiveness<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inattentiveness<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Inattentiveness is usually described as a difficulty in concentrating or focusing \u2013 this can present itself in numerous ways, including, but not limited to:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Having a short attention span<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Appearing to forget or occasionally lose things<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Making careless mistakes at work<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hyperactivity\/impulsivity<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Often described as an inability to sit still for long periods \u2013 hyperactivity mainly presents itself in children, but as an adult, there are some tell-tale signs:&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Being unable to concentrate on tasks<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Constantly fidgeting&nbsp;<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Restless legs while stationary<\/span><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Interrupting conversations without realizing<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And, of course, plenty more.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You may not realize how damaging some of these things can be. An inability to concentrate can easily lead to poor performance at work. Making careless mistakes can be the difference between getting home fine and leaving your keys at the bar.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But we\u2019re not here to talk about the symptoms today \u2013 we\u2019re here to talk about the solutions.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"finding-the-solution\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Finding the Solution<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As in most things \u2013 there is no <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">one-size-fits-all <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">solution to ADHD. It\u2019s a complex beast and needs to be treated as such.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Standard treatment options include medication, psychotherapy, group therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) \u2013 a form of psychological treatment that focuses on effectively treating a range of conditions by changing a person\u2019s patterns of thinking.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each has its own pros and cons, but I want to focus on CBT today, specifically, an app that harnesses the power of CBT and could provide excellent results.
